Weekly Rundown

Weekly Rundown–finally! Only five whole days late. I was recovering from our annual BBQ. Actually, I was recovering from the dash my husband put us on to finish every project he ever started before the party.  I have also found that my change in schedule (working 11:30am to 8pm) puts a crimp in my writing–apparently, I really don’t like writing in the morning! And, yes, those are both excuses for my being lazy 🙂

Monday: a planned day off. I did do some stairs at work, but I had overdid the previous week. Once I figured out how to go down as well as up, I eschewed the elevator every chance I got. I spent most of the weekend with an aching knee.

Tuesday: A walk again with my friend Kate on the Rail Trail. So much nicer than walking around my house, it is so flat and even! We did 3 miles, and I did more stairs at work.

Wednesday: Yoga to stretch out from my walk. I took the mat out on the deck and enjoyed some nature, which always makes yoga better. I did 15 minutes of stretching poses and felt relaxed and refreshed when I was done.

Thursday: off

Friday: Arm Weights and Leg PT. As always, it made my leg feel better. Maybe I should start doing the every day?

Saturday:  yoga for 20 minutes out on the deck.  Then I lunged the horses. They were so good. No more riding yet, but I am loving playing with them 🙂 Apparently they are enjoying the attention too. Then our BBQ in the afternoon/evening. That kept me busy!

Sunday: off–recovery. We spent the day on the couch watching  the Jaws marathon. And napping. There was definitely some napping involved.

Weekly Rundown

Another week flashes by. I think I got to enjoy this week a little bit, however. It was a mix of hot sunny days and much needed rainy days. I had my last PT checkup, and she released me back into the wild. I just need to keep exercising and pushing the bend in my leg.

Monday: off. But I went down the stairs at work properly; that is, one foot stepping down to each stair instead of stepping down with my left and just bringing the right to the same step. It wasn’t graceful, but it was done!

Tuesday: a yoga day 🙂 I did both stretch and strengthening poses. I even got into Warrior I and held it for two breaths.

I doubt it looked this good, but I am just happy that my leg is strong enough to hold.
I went down three flights of stairs at work again, and my leg felt it by the bottom.  But it held up, and that’s what matters.

Wednesday: Arm Weights and Leg PT exercises.  Took about 40 minutes since I was trying to do each lift slower to make it work harder.  I also did 1 x 10 step raises with my right leg; where I put my right foot on the higher step and lifted myself with that leg. At the end of the session, I increased my plank to 1m 23s.

Thursday: yoga again. I went out on the deck to enjoy the weather. It was humid and about 80, so I was glad I was in the shade.  Since I had been doing poses with a bent knee, I tried doing one of the video (from memory) routines I used to do.  I did it fairly well, which made me feel pretty good about my progress.

Friday: off. I had my final check up with my PT therapist, but I wouldn’t call it exercise! I did do a lot of stairs at work this week, going both up and down whenever possible. Which it was a LOT!

Saturday: Leg PT.  I did a full 3 x 15  session, but I skipped the arm weights since I spent an hour sanding the deck with an orbital sander. I thought that might be enough for my arms for  one day. I also moved brush later in the evening to clean up around our new outdoor kitchen my husband built.

Sunday: off again. Although, after moving and raking sand in front of the barn so it won’t (hopefully) be so  muddy for the horses; and cleaning our library from top to bottom (including climbing on chairs and bureaus), I am not so sure it was really off.

Weekly Rundown

Another week flown by! It needs to slow down or I feel like I will just miss summer. I think it is the 2 months I was out after the accident-I feel like it should be May, not July 🙂 But I am loving our weather right now!

Monday: Arm Weights and Leg PT, 3 x15 reps. Took about 35 minutes. When I first started 3×15 reps, it took 50 or more minutes. I guess I am not taking as long a breather between reps. Might be time to add another rep. I also got on Charby for some work out in the driveway for 15 minutes. She was not quite as lovey as she had been the day before–apparently, she realized that work might become a common occurence!

Tuesday: Yoga for 25 minutes. After the weights and riding the previous day, I focused more on stretching poses than strength. It felt marvelous 🙂

Wednesday: I did the Arm Weights and Leg PT again, adding in 3 x 15 heel raises (on stairs) and squats. At the end I did a 1.12 minute plank. I have been ending my sessions with a plank and trying to increase my endurance each time.  One of my friends challenged us to  Four Week Plank Challenge (on my Drills page) and I am not terribly good at doing it everyday, but I am making an effort to increase my endurance and hold my planks longer. I also took the time before work to lunge Mr. Christopher Robin, and he did a great job paying attention and being a good pony.

Thursday: an unexpected walk. I had actually planned on taking the day off since I was going for a walk with my friend. We usually amble along and don’t go very far. We hit the rail trail in Augusta to start and– 81 minutes later–had managed to walk 4.06 miles! It was my first walk beyond 2 miles and I was very happy that it didn’t bother me at all. At the time. I did stiffen up quickly at work that day whenever I sat, but moving around made it feel better immediately.

Friday: I really did take it off.  Well, except for going out to help my husband in the Christmas tree lot, where I weedwacked and weeded for about 45 minutes. The poor little trees (we only planted 2 years ago) had hay growing around them. It was my first time out there, and my husband hadn’t been out there much either with all that was going on this year. They were some happy little trees, however. Especially after we freed them from the weeds.

Saturday: a bit more stretchy yoga, as I felt that is what I needed most this week. I did go out to weed around more of the trees and also wandered around the horse pasture spreading some grass seed. I hope it took. It was a cloudy, rainy weekend; so I have great hopes of it coming up. And of maybe some of the grass already out there growing, since it needed rain desperately.

Sunday:  House cleaning! Between the party we are having in 2 weeks and the company I had coming for dinner, we did some intense house cleaning. And exterior cleaning as well. I did lunge the horses (both of them), but didn’t have time to squeeze in a ride. I also made myself do the Arm Weights and Leg PT, but only 2 x 15 reps.

PS: so I had a plan yesterday, I wrote this in the morning, and was going to come home and reread so I could post. That plan did not take into account the deer that leapt in front of me on the way home last night. Don’t know if he was dared to beat me across the road, but he really should have reconsidered. He made it off into the woods, and I am fine, but my Tribeca looks like she was punched in the nose. By the time we were done with police and got home, I have to admit posting was last thing on my mind.

I must be healing–my husband let me use his new gas weedwacker! And I promptly pulled a muscle in my back. Argh.
My hubby has been very protective of me since the accident and I was surprised when he showed me how to use the weedwacker with no argument. The good news is that it didn’t bother my leg at all.   Progress-on many fronts 🙂

Weekly Rundown

Ah, what a week. Not as much to report as I would like.  Or, at least, not as much exercise as I would like.

Monday: Took the day off, not knowing  what would come 🙂

Tuesday: Just a few moments for yoga before my PT, so I focused on leg strengthening poses, as well as ones that bent the knee. Then I was off to work at 8:30. They gave me a break to run off to pool therapy at 10. And I ran! Ok, I ran in the pool, but it was still running. Wonder what it would be like if I ran out of the water? Well, you know I wondered that too. So I tried it upstairs in the hospital that night (when there was no one around). Bad move, cuz of course it was a concrete floor and really improper shoes! It wasn’t the coming down on my right leg that bothered me (kinda surprised me there), but trying to push back off with that leg. I guess I will be running in the pool for a bit.

Wednesday: off. I worked the day shift, and I figured that if I took two days off this week, it would be ok.

Thursday: off. We have a co-worker on vacation this week and I was asked to do 8:30 to 5s, with the caveat that someone could cover my 5 to 8 upstairs. Because of the busyiness, I came in at 7am to help. Then I realized around noon that my night shift wasn’t covered. Oops. So I stayed til 8pm, and no exercise was done that day. Although I did plenty of stairs at work 🙂

Friday: off. Another long day at work, 8 to 8.  With another break for my PT. I guess if I go to PT, it’s not really a day off, I just never feel like I work that hard in the pool. It’s too much fun!

Saturday: the first day of my three-day weekend. I fed the horses, and then did a two mile walk. It was a wonderful walk, before the day got too hot. Going down a steep hill is still  awkward, but little hills are definitely easier. I did 10 minutes of yoga to stretch out after my walk. Afterwards, I ran to town to get groceries before the stores got too crazy for the holiday.  Then I took a really nice nap on the couch with Daisy.

Sunday:  A busy day. And this is how I started it:

yep, I got on the horse!! It was marvelous. She was such a good girl, and very lovey–I guess she needed the attention. It was a short ride, but proved that I can do it and will be getting on more! I also raked out my flower gardens, cleaning up the last of them for the season.  Although they have been doing well enough without my attention:

After helping my husband carry some bricks, I managed to squeeze in a nap before doing the house cleaning and laundry. And still slept so well!

So I have to say that I am sorry for my lack of posts this previous week. Work was nuts, and I worked several long days: 7am to 8 pm and 8am to 8pm. Keep in mind that I work in a hospital where medical personnel routinely work 12 hour shifts, so there was no one feeling sorry for me. Except for me 😉 I will try to do better next week.
