Weekly Rundown

I have a confession–I am a running addict!

Now that I am out on the road, all I want to do is run. The heck with a balanced exercise program, I just wanna run.

Of course, I can’t  just run. My body, particularly my knee, wouldn’t allow that. And I suppose I would miss yoga and riding if all I did was run. I wouldn’t miss weights or Burpees though!

Monday: instead of taking it off as usual, my friend was available for a morning walk so I started with 20 minutes of stretchy yoga before heading off to meet her. We didn’t do much, just a mile and a half around the hospital.  I did my Burpees before leaving too, 25 for the day.

Tuesday: I planned on a 2 mile run out on the road. But Mother Nature had her own ideas and it started to rain just before I ran out the door. So I did 2 miles on the treadmill, watching Macgyver 🙂 I worked the speed up to 6.5 on the second mile. Too bad I wasn’t paying attention to my splits, but I did do the run in 19.46. I finished off with stretching and Burpees. I did 26, and alternated the width of my hands to work different shoulder muscles. Ok, it was really cuz my shoulder muscles killed and I needed to alternate to be able to do them all….but the other reason sounds better.

Wednesday: a day off! Except for those Burpees, of course. Up to 27. And I forgot to do them before my shower, so I had to do them after work. Won’t do that again!

Thursday: I did a 2 mile run on the road, and it felt great! My first mile was slow, 11:40; but I made up for it on the second mile, which was 10:30. I came back to do 20 minutes of yoga. I did a mix of strength and stretch poses, with my 28 Burpees mixed in as well.

Friday: I took the day off to have the vet out to see the horses, so I had a bit more time to play with. So Daisy and I headed off for a walk. We briskly walked 2.99 miles in 50 minutes. And my OCD is so unhappy with the 2.99 😛 If I had known, we would have walked up and down the driveway to hit 3.0! Afterwards I stretched and did 29 Burpees.

Saturday: another run! And I took a right instead of a left out of my driveway, so I had the uphill mile ahead of me for the first time this year. I made it up the first hill (last time I made it 3/4s of the way when I ran out just a half mile), and up all the hills that followed. It was slow (12 minutes), but I made it! It felt marvelous to get that hill behind me, I had been avoiding running that way. Of course, the mile ends at the peak of the hill, so to go on a longer run, I need to run down–and back up. Next milestone 🙂 And, lets not forget, I finished off with 30 Burpees. So now, should I ever get into an Elite Spartan run, I can now officially fail 1 obstacle.  In the afternoon I hopped on Christopher Robin. He has really come a long way since I got him, as he was loved but no one really used him at his last home. So it has taken a while for him to realize that he has to work here. He has a great personality, so working that awareness into him has been fun. We had a great ride, just a few minutes longer than we had been doing.

Sunday: Daisy and I walked out just over a mile and ran back.  I have to run a bit slower with Daisy–I have been running longer distances now, plus she likes to look around and make sure she sniffed everything on the way out.  But that’s ok, because it gives me time to work on my form. When we got home, Daisy climbed on the couch and watched me do my 31 Burpees. I worked around the gardens and helped my husband with that shed (it is going to have a grander second life than it had at Gramps’), then rode Charby in the afternoon. We did some actual work, trotting continuously and  doing circles, instead of the wandering I have been doing. Time to get us both in shape!

Weekly Rundown

Just a day late. My excuse?

Well, I have been doing my posts on my Monday mornings  since Monday has been my day off from exercise, and then checking what I wrote that night to make sure it makes sense before posting.

Yesterday I got up at 5 am to go walk before work with my friend, then I got home and had to run around getting ready for the thunder-storm (that didn’t show, how rude!), feed the horses, and the hubby, and do the dishes, and by the time I sat down at 7:30 pm  I was pretty sure nothing I wrote would make sense 😉

It was a good week, we had sunshine and a bit of warmth. A little too much warmth according to some people, but it was such a cold spring I am not complaining until we have three weeks straight of record temperatures.

I had a real lack of motivation and energy this week, but I made do anyway. I just wasn’t enjoying myself most days.

Monday: 1.5 miles on the treadmill. I started out running, but quickly decided that I had no energy and decided on a fast walk at 3.5MPH.  There may have been more than a lack of energy causing my hardship at a run–more on that later. I followed up with 18 Burpees and some stretching for all the muscles that hurt after those Burpees.

Tuesday: still no energy, which seemed to be the trend for the week. I did 20 minutes of yoga, interspersing Tree and Warrior positions in with the stretching. My leg has been doing much better with the Warrior positions, and not complaining as much.I feel better knowing I have been strengthening the muscles around my knee, and it is working.  And 19 Burpees to round out my practice.

Wednesday: I decided to take it on the road, and ran 1.42 miles in 16:07.  It was the 80% uphill route, so I was pretty happy. The route starts up a long hill, and I didn’t quite make it to the top, but I made it close enough for the first time. I came home and stretched and, of course, did those 20 Burpees. My shoulders hurt from those silly Burpees and swinging my arms while running hurt about 3/4 of a mile in. Almost skipped the Burpees, but made myself do them anyway.

Thursday: off! Kinda. I did 21 Burpees in the morning, and walked Daisy a mile when I got home that night.

Friday: I did 2 miles on the treadmill in 21 minutes. I varied the speed from 6 MPH to 5 MPH every couple of minutes during the second mile to change things up. I had wanted to run outside, but it was raining-of course. Then I stretched and, yup, Burpees-22.

Saturday: Out on the road again, 2 miles in 21 minutes. That made me very happy, that  I could run as fast out on the road as I do on the treadmill. With hills, and rocks, and holes to avoid and all!  I did my Burpees, and stretched and then headed out to hang with a friend. When I got home I rode Christopher Robin for 15 minutes. He was a pretty good boy, once he got over the disappointment  of me actually putting a saddle on his back.

Sunday: Oh, the busyness! I helped my husband with his chores (re-erecting the shed), walked Daisy 2 miles, did my 24 Burpees, worked in the vegetable garden, and weed-wacked around the perennial gardens. Then I fly-sprayed and brushed Charby and rode for about 20 minutes before the flies drove us in. And relaxed gratefully in my armchair that evening.

Funny story: I discovered the treadmill was on incline all week when I hopped on it this morning. Oops. No wonder I didn’t have any energy!

Weekly Rundown

A cold and wet week, didn’t feel like June at all. It could have been the weather, but I had no motivation at all this week. I did put a plan for the week in place, but each day I wandered in the morning wondering what I actually felt like doing. Most days, it was not what I had planned! But, on the other hand, I did exercise 🙂

I might also blame my lack of motivation on the crazy busyness of my  days, leaving me little energy for anything. Seems like I never catch up. And the Burpees are wearing me out. I think they might be a permanent addition to my exercise routines, as they are clearly working muscles that needed to be worked.

Monday: off-except for those Burpees! 11

Tuesday: 20 minute walk on the treadmill with the incline. Followed by 20 minutes of yoga, including both strength and stretch poses. I have been working on adding some Warrior poses to strengthen my knee,  since I discovered most of my DVD yoga sessions are too much for my knee, as they use Warrior continuously throughout the practice.  And 12 Burpees!

Wednesday: a brisk 20 minute/2 mile run on the treadmill. I did try to leave the incline from the day before, but it just wasn’t happening. I had a hard time even getting myself going, so the little “extra” was not anything my legs were up to. Afterwards I did 13 Burpees and some stretching.

Thursday: I had no motivation, and kinda wandered around wondering what I should do. So I did some drills! The biggest problem being that it has been so long since I have been able to do my running drills, I couldn’t remember them all. I ran a mile down the road and back before starting the drills. I did 3 of the 7 drills: skipping, running backwards, and grapevines. I also remembered the high knees, but I wasn’t sure my leg was up to doing those, so I did another set of skipping with slightly higher knee movements. I finished up with Burpees ( 14) and 10 minutes of stretching.

Friday: Still lacking motivation, I did an easy 1.26 miles walking on the treadmill in 25 minutes. I followed by 10 minutes of stretching and, of course, those Burpees. 15. And, oh, my aching shoulders! I have been avoiding push ups for the last 30 years (ever since gym class) and now I know why.

Saturday: Daisy and I walked a brisk 16 minute mile out, then ran back. My legs were ready to take right off, and I actually had to slow down for Daisy. She wasn’t quite ready to go that fast. She likes to look around while running 🙂 And my shoulders hurt just from the arm swing. But I still managed 16 Burpees and 15 minutes of stretch-y yoga when we got back.

Sunday: off. We went up to see our family 2.5 hours away, and left at 5:30 am, so no time to exercise first. And we got home at 7 pm, so too tired to exercise after! I did make myself do those foolish Burpees-17.

Weekly Rundown

What a crazy weekend. And no naps! Then I worked late yesterday–which was preplanned, but I forgot until right before I left for work, which meant  no writing in the morning.

I have been writing the rundown in the morning before work since I am taking Mondays off, putting my normal exercise time to good use.

But yesterday, I was so worn out from the weekend, I am lucky that I got up. I nursed my coffee while staring blankly at the morning news until it was time to get ready for work. When I got home, I fed the horses, the husband, checked the greenhouse, and then repeated staring blankly at the tv til it was time to go to bed. But today I bounced back!

Monday: I was still on vacation, so Daisy and I took a walk. We did 3.37 miles in exactly one hour, with the last mile being a brisk 16:57. Not only am I a long distance type, getting faster as I go; but, apparently, so is my dog! Daisy climbed on the couch and watched while I finished off with 12 minutes of stretchy yoga.

Tuesday: Another Daisy walk–she was loving my vacation. We did 2.32 miles at a slower 42 minutes, then I did my 25 minutes of weight training. I am again using the dumbbells, light as they are, instead of resistance training. I finished off my last vacaion day off with riding Christopher Robin. I even saddled him and did a real ride, which I am pretty sure he didn’t appreciate. I also learned that the twist of the stirrup was fairly uncomfortable for my leg, so I think I will be doing a sitting trot instead of posting for the forseeable future. Good thing both the horses are fairly comfortable.

Wednesday: I finally started the Burpee Challenge! As it was the 31st, I did 5 Burpees. I plan on adding one Burpee each day, so that by the end of the 30 days in June, I can do 35 in a row–hopefully with little pain 🙂 I threw the challenge out on Facebook and some of my like-minded friends have joined in. I started the morning with a 1 mile run on the treadmill, then my 5 Burpees, followed by a 20 minute yoga practice that was mix of strength (Tree, Warrior, Plank) and stretching movements.

Thursday: off!! Except for those 6 Burpees, of course!

Friday: I started a bit late, so I did a quick 11:41 mile on the treadmill, followed by 11 minutes of stretch-y yoga. And, of course, 7 Burpees!

Saturday: I had agreed to work the morning, so I needed to be there at 7am. That meant I wasn’t getting up early enough to have time to exercise. I also didn’t get a lot of sleep, which was a lousy way to start my weekend. I ran a few errands after work and got home around 3pm. I did my 8 Burpees, then, not wanting to leave Daisy out, I took her out for a brisk 1.4 mile walk. I would love to put in a time, but we had a few tech difficulties. When we got back I went out to the back field to work around my ring so I could start riding out there. Cars on my road are just a bit untrustworthy to be riding out on the road. Eventually my husband will use the new tractor with the bucket to even out the riding ring and make it beautiful. For now I just need an area to do a lot of walking and a bit of trotting.

Sunday: I started out the morning with Daisy. We walked out 1.75 miles at a brisk pace (1st mile was 14:30), and then ran back for a 3.5 mile total. We both did pretty good, it was her first run of the year and my leg felt much more comfortable running on the road. After I stretched and did my 9 Burpees. Then there was house cleaning to be done, and more work out in  field for riding. The Christmas trees we are growing needed some weeding and fertilizing, and that finished off the morning. In the afternoon we transported the shed we had disassembled out back to the field where the trees were growing. The pieces took a few trips, and some serious thought. Late in the afternoon I took Charby out to the ring and rode til the flies chased us in. And my legs gave out 🙂
The best part of the whole weekend was, even after all that movement, my knee really didn’t hurt and I didn’t need to ice it!
